Types of Hearing Aids

Since the introduction of digital technology in hearing aids, the benefits available to hearing aid users have increased at an incredible rate. Today’s hearing aids are much smaller – some are virtually invisible – and are now able to deal with challenging listening environments much more effectively than before. Many can adapt automatically to different situations without the need for manual adjustment, and some can even integrate seamlessly with other technologies such as TVs, mobile phones and MP3 players.

We offer a wide variety of hearing aids to suit individual needs. We routinely fit all the major brands, such as Phonak, Resound, Starkey, Widex, Oticon and Unitron, but we are able to supply other makes if required.

Behind the Ear Hearing Aids (BTE)

Versatile and powerful hearing aids that are worn behind the ear. They can be utilised for all degrees of hearing losses, but are particularly beneficial for those with a severe to profound hearing loss.

In-the-ear hearing aids (ITC)

In-the-ear hearing aids (ITE) are the most discreet hearing aid styles available. They have no external wires or tubes visible, as opposed to behind-the-ear hearing aids. ITE hearing aids are all custom-made, ensuring both a perfect fit and a discreet look.

Receiver in the Ear hearing Aids (RITE)

These hearing aids are small and feather-light. The discreet wire helps to create an aesthetically pleasing solution while the clever receiver (or speaker) placement makes for impressive speech clarity, even in noisy situations. They sit neatly behind your ear and are comfortable to wear.

Completely in Canal and Invisible in Canal Hearing Aids (CIC & IIC)

IIC hearing aids fit deep into the ear canal, the visibility is dependent on the size and shape of the ear canal. These instruments are removed for showering and sleeping, but can be worn at all other times.

In the Ear Hearing Aids (ITE)

Unobtrusive hearing aids that are worn in the ear. Aesthetically pleasing, suitable for those with a mild to severe hearing loss.  The smallest ITE-models are called CIC (Completely-in-Canal), as they fit completely in the ear canal.
